Yes, Romancing the Stone was a very exciting and romantic adventure move. But when you consider over 397,000 works are published every year in the English-speaking world alone (Wikipedia’s stats for UK, USA and Canada), why not move on? Why mess with the classics? RARELY do the redos match the quality of the originals.

Unfortunately movie industry is not always about what might interest audience or publishers. Sometimes it's merely a challenge for a director or a production company to demonstrate their ability in recreating some of the popular movies.
And sometimes economically speaking, they don't want to take risks, esp. ever since internet emerged , the production companies became more conservative in their choices, maybe since they can't really decide in this vast sea of information , what might be an interest of the mainstream.
I agree with your opinion, but it's really not up to us.
